Dock Shop FAQ's
How many floats and what size do I need?
Determining the number and size of floats involves a few main steps:
- Design your dock layout (walkways, platforms, boat slips, etc...)
- Assess your hardware needs
- Determine overall dock weight and desired live load capability
- Choose the right dock floats
We have a detailed guide that walks through each of these steps in our DIY Assembly guide.
Why are shipping costs so high?
Unfortunately, these products are large and bulky which makes shipping them very expensive to ship. We do not make a profit on shipping fees, the rates shown on the website are passed through directly from our carrier partners.
Buying in bulk is the best way to reduce shipping costs per unit. Once your shipment is large enough to move from Parcel to LTL, additional products become much cheaper to add to your shipment.
Pickup is also an option if you don't want to pay for shipping; our fulfillment facility is located in Gravette, AR.
How much weight do the floats support?
Each float has its buoyancy rating as part of its name. For example, the 2'x3'x8" - 205 lbs float supports a maximum load of 205 pounds. For multiple floats, simply add the buoyancy ratings together to determine the total maximum weight these floats can support (ex: (4) of the 2x3x8 floats can support (4) x 205 lbs = 820 lbs ).
For more detailed buoyancy information, please see our Buoyancy Chart along with the accompanying guide.
Why is there a hole in the top of my dock float?
This hole allows air-pressure to regulate with temperature changes while the float is not in the water. Each float is shipped with a threaded vent-plug that screws into the hole once the float is ready to be submerged in the water. These vent plugs are secured under one of the ribs of the floats during shipping.
Can the floats be left in water that freezes over?
Yes! Eagle Floats and our dock hardware have a reputation for the highest quality and durability in the market. Leaving these floats in bodies of water that freeze will not damage the floats or impede their long-term performance. However, if you would rather fully winterize your dock or are in an area with both icy conditions as well as strong currents, we recommend adding dock wheels to your system to pull your dock out of the water during cold-weather months.
Can your products be used to build a __ x __ dock?
Our hardware and flotation can be used to construct any size dock. As long as your have proper framing and buoyancy plans, our hardware, flotation, and accessories can be used for docks of any size.
I like your dock kits, but I don't see the size I'm looking for. Can you design a custom dock plan for me?
Many of our kits can be modified to account for wider walkways, smaller platforms, or alternate dimensions. While we cannot design custom dock builds for each of our customers, we have live support that can provide generalized guidance to help you put together the proper products for your specific dock.
